Survived our First REAL Heat Wave

Wow… So…. It was hot. Sunday sucked but Monday (yesterday) was even worse. It was over 80 degrees by 8am and by 10am we were already over 100; we actually held steady at 113 for most the day! I had my portable A/C running, the house A/C and my giant fan but still it was about 80 degrees in my room! The rest of the house was horrible so forget trying to go downstairs and cook! I did bust out my cooling vest for the first time in years and I will say it helped the “keep Matt cool” effort.

I ended up building (basically) a blanket fort (like kids do) around my portable A/C and then just lying there on the floor for a few hours because it was just so bad! But at least the power did not go out which I was really expecting since everyone usually blasts their A/C on the first heat wave and then… rolling brown outs.

So I would say I survived but what was the cost to my health? Well I definitely “feel it”. I woke up today and I felt like I had noodles for limbs; everything felt weak and ataxic. I feel really dizzy and my oscillopsia is acting up worse than usual which was already bad. I feel like I really need to get up and walk around because I have just been sitting here at my desk but it’s too hot to leave my room so I feel like my body is just shriveling up! The fatigue was horrible yesterday, I would actually say I felt lethargic, and that is nowhere near as bad today but I still feel really “hung over”. I feel slow… physically and mentally.

I don’t remember it being like this last year, such a struggle, so what the heck? Either it’s hotter (no) or my body is just more sensitive… my money is on that one.
