Too Much Heat for My MS…

I have been meaning to buy a new filter for my fish tank for a while now, the old one was just not doing it’s job and the water was getting cloudy… Since I had a Gift card to Petsmart (From my birthday) I had been meaning to go and buy a new water filter but I have not been able to because my Dad’s car (which I use when he is not using it) broke down and is being fixed today. Hitching a ride has not been easy either but yesterday I knew I HAD to go because I was starting to worry my fish would all die in the mucky water so I decided “OK, simple, I will take the bus to the pet store and by time I am done there my Dad will be driving by on his way home from work”.

It was pretty warm out but there was a bit of a breeze so I thought I would be fine. Once I was on the bus I remembered why the bus sucks in the summer, it is warm inside so all the nasty smells rise from the plastic seats, man,  nothing like the aroma of summer sweat… I got off at the mall where I would have to walk about 10 minutes to the pet store and this is when I noticed that the heat was starting to get to me. I did not feel dizzy like I was too hot nor was I breaking any kind of sweat but I could see it was getting to me in my walking, my legs were weak and my knees were a bit stiff, they felt worse with each step, almost locking into place as I dropped my foot into the ground. My core was growing tight as well but for what ever reason it causes my back to arch backwards as I walk which doesn’t feel all that great. I struggled to maintain a decent form by walking calmly and trying to lean forward. Nonetheless my back was killing me…

I got to the pet store, got my stuff, and got a ride home. I was feeling tired and tight so I ate and took a shower as quickly as I could. I really just wanted to get in bed. Once I was in bed I was feeling very restless! I could not get comfortable and even start to think about trying to sleep!Nothing like being super tired yet unable to sleep because I was twisting and turning and moving my legs around! I eventually took some Temazepam and finally knocked out but it was so hard to wake up this morning… I missed my opportunity to go for a walk (I have to go early before the heat takes over) which was probably a good thing because I should be taking it easy today after that encounter with the heat yesterday evening. I feel OK so far today but who knows what some moving around might have done… I need to stick to my strict “no going outside when it is hot” rule no matter how cramped up I feel in my room…

  1. So glad you made it in the heat…10 minute walk sounds like a long walk to me….I get so tired of being tired and can't sleep so the meds help a bit

  2. It can FEEL long in the heat, when you sont feel well, when I was in Ireland it was in the 40's and I felt great. I walked miles a day arouns town for hours and felt like nothing was wrong… Crazy,…

Last week I took a 10 minute walk to our local farm market, stayed for about 10, then walked back home. It was in the morning but already in the low 80s. I promptly went back to bed for three hours! I like that I live somewhere I can walk short distances for things, but in that kind of heat it may as well be miles!

  4. Yeah, I mean, I don't live somewhere like that but I WANT to unless it's hot because as you said, 5 minutes down the street may as well be 5 MILES!

I feel really restless when I wake up (usually very early). Im gonna try time released melatonin, cuz the regular stuff only works for about 4 hours, which wakes me up in the middle of the nite as soon as It wears off (grrr)

  6. Well melatonin doesnt actually induce sleep, it just tells your brain when it's time to sleep so you can basically SET you internal clock.
