A Few Symptoms I always Forget to Mention

Multiple Sclerosis MS head pain needle

I was sitting down the other day, bored, and I experienced something that happens to me every once in a while. I realized that I had never mentioned it here on my blog before or at least not that I remember so I wrote it down on a sticky not before I forgot. Then that symptom reminded me of something else and then something else again! So I just wanted to throw this all out there in case anyone else has ever experienced this before as I always forget to mention it to my doctors and I am not sure if it is MS related or not. Might be good to figure this stuff out though!

First let’s start with the weird one… At random I will get a really sharp pain in my temple. Usually on the right side but sometimes on the left. It feels like something the thickness of a pencil is being driven into my head and it lasts for a few seconds before going away. This happens sometimes a couple times a month or just once every few months. I never really kept track of it because it’s so quick I just tend to forget about it. I have had this a few years before I was diagnosed with MS by the way.

Secondly I get something similar in my back but much worse. This is also at random, no rhyme, no reason. I can be sitting down watching TV or outside on a hike and all of a sudden an extremely sharp pain shoots down my back just under my shoulder blade. What’s horrible about this is that it makes it extremely painful to take in a breath… I’m talking drop to the floor painful. So when this happens I have to take the shortest, tiniest, breaths possible because the deeper I breath the more intense the pain. I sometimes wonder if this has to do with my diaphragm pushing against a nerve or something but I’m not sure. This also doesn’t happen too often and has happened to me for years before I was diagnosed with MS so I always forget to bring it up. When it does happen it can last anywhere from a few seconds to a bit over a minute.

This last one is definitely MS related but its so settle I always forget about it but it’s worth a mention just so I don’t forget that I have experienced this. But every once in a while I’ll experience some involuntary twitching. This happens in my hands, my arms, legs, and sometimes chest. It literally feels like I am getting poked with an electric stick. Where ever it hits I jump/twitch. This doesn’t happen often so it doesn’t bug me too much yet but I’m just hoping it doesn’t become an issue…

OH YEAH… My job interview got postponed… I’m a bit angry and by a bit I mean I am REALLY angry but there is more too it I just don’t care to bring it up right now. Ill explain later. Take care all!

  1. I get the headache one too Matt, but not the others. I never had many headaches pre MS, but once every few weeks I get a sharp pain in my skull, left usually, sometimes right. It goes away fast, I get over it and get back to life.
Just one of those MS things I guess.

  2. The twitch: I get that several times a day, usually before a wicked spasm or severe cramping. Do you get a tingle before the twitch?

The sharp pain thing: I get that in my temple, behind my ear, and through the top of my head. Usually comes along with problems with my eyes. Can't say I've had it in my shoulder though, maybe you have a pinched nerve?

I hope the interview mess gets sorted out soon. Hope you have a good weekend!

Well the head thing is definitely not anything like a headache. However I did used to always get headaches and horrible migraines. Has not been so bad lately.

Yeah the shoulder is maybe a bad way to put it. It deep inside the muscle under my shoulder blade. So I think it might have something to do with maybe not a pinched nerve but an inflamed one since it only happens every once in a while. Who knows.

And yeah I REALLY want the job thing to work out. No money is no fun.

The twitching I get in my limbs and on my face once in awhile.

I also get a "drop you to your knees" shooting pain up the back of my head on the right side occasionally. It comes out of nowhere and generally last only 30 seconds. Thank god, cause the pain is so intense all I can do is grab my head and cry out in pain. It disapears as fast as it comes on.

Man I wonder what the heck that is?? The head pain I get occasionally is not nearly as bad as when it hits my back. The head one might make me wince and pause what I am doing for a second but in my back I can't even breath…

    Matt,

Sounds like sideband problems, I feel like I have someone's fist under my ribcage pushing against my lungs, not fun, and (I can hardly walk back pain), I have to take pain killers for it. I hope Copaxion works for you I have taken it for (2) years and my Brain lesions are getting worse, off to some other nasty drug. What is your facebook page?

    Your MS Brother Jeff..
