Today I would like to announce that I am officially declaring this day as my second milestone along my recovery journey. I’m increasing my recovery percentage from 80% to 90%, not because I have shown any improvement in the last couple of days, but because I realized that I may never reach 100%, however, I am now at a point where if this is the best I’m ever going to get I will be satisfied. At this point, multiple sclerosis is not stopping me from doing anything! Sure I still have a few minor side effects such as skin sensitivity on the rights of my body, minor cognitive issues, and of course my horrible vision which I fear may require me to wear glasses for the rest of my life, who knows…
Anyways, I pretty much have all my strength back and my walking seems to be back to normal. I am sure I have naturally and unconsciously altered my gate to compensate for the drop foot I was experiencing but I’m really not sure, I’ll have to film myself walking and compare how each foot steps, but as far as I’m concerned, my foot is no longer dragging. Yesterday I walked almost 3 miles and today I walked about a mile and a half to Target and back to grab myself some apples for breakfast. So like I said, I no longer feel physically disabled although I did go on a mini hike a few days ago where I climbed a small rock facing. Climbing down I notice that my left arm could not grip the rope as firmly as my right arm but I was still able to get down okay so maybe I just need to give it a couple more weeks before my left arm can match my right arm’s strength.
Speaking of my left arm/hand, my fine motor control is doing way better! In fact, I would say my hand itself is at about 95%, I can play the Piano almost as good as I could before all this MS stuff came up but I haven’t really messed with guitar yet, but I feel as though I’m at the point where doing small fine motor control exercises will bring my hand back to a full recovery! So I’m really happy for that!
As far as my vision is concerned, something is definitely changing because my glasses are starting to give me a headache again… I also have been keeping an eye on my peripheral vision home test printout sheet, I have noticed that the blind spot in my left eye seems to have almost completely disappeared but my right eye does seem to still have a decent sized blind spot. I also test my personal vision with a laser pen by staring at a single point on the wall or ceiling and moving the laser pen from left to right without following it with my eyes. When the laser pen crosses over my blind spot, the laser point completely disappears! When I first started experiencing vision problems the laser would disappear for quite a while but now it has reached the point where I can only notice it disappear if I move the laser point really slow, it disappears for just a split second so now I am really eager to do another peripheral vision field test to see how much my eyes have improved! I’m also eager to get new glasses! I hate these headaches!
Below is my Youtube update and a clip of me climbing that small rockface I was talking about, we also got the Civic stuck in a rut, kind of funny, but I’ll update soon, thanks for reading!
